The Texas Tribune
The Texas Tribune seeks a highly motivated and results-oriented Regional Sales Manager to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial in driving revenue growth to achieve ambitious goals in support of our $16 million organization through securing sponsorships and advertising partnerships with businesses and organizations that align with our mission and values.
The Tribune is a nonpartisan, nonprofit media organization that informs and engages Texans about politics and policy. We are committed to public service, providing in-depth reporting, data-driven journalism, and insightful events to empower citizens and strengthen our democracy.
We are a digital news organization, reaching millions of Texans each year through our website, newsletters, social media and live events. We are supported by our members, foundations and corporate sponsors.
As we expand our corporate revenue for ongoing sustainability, we work directly with clients to create custom client marketing programs for maximum return on investment. The Regional Sales Manager’s primary focus will be the Austin and Waco markets, home to our Austin Current and Waco Bridge brands, and support of the statewide Tribune newsroom as well.
The ideal Regional Sales Manager candidate will be a skilled communicator and strategic thinker and will be passionate about the importance of independent journalism. The successful candidate will be responsible for presenting and implementing digital and event ad sponsorship strategies to renew and grow existing Tribune sponsors, along with building new business.
The Regional Sales Manager reports to the Vice President of Sales.
Compensation is a base salary of $80,000 with a bonus incentive dependent on sales success.
Responsibilities
Prospect and Secure New Business : Identify, research, and contact potential sponsors and advertisers, including corporations, foundations, associations, and government agencies across the state of Texas.
Develop and Present Proposals : Create compelling and customized sponsorship and advertising proposals that meet the specific needs and objectives of each client.
Pipeline Management : From initial contact to contract signing and execution, manage the entire sales process, including needs assessment, proposal development, negotiation and closing. Provide accurate forecasting weekly, monthly and quarterly.
Build and Maintain Relationships : Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, acting as a trusted adviser. Attend and engage the community at various events held throughout Texas.
Collaborate Internally : Work closely with various internal teams, including Marketing and Communications, Events and newsroom leadership to ensure seamless execution of sponsorship and advertising agreements.
Achieve Revenue Targets : Consistently meet or exceed key performance metrics and goals on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
Growth Mindset : Embrace challenges with a coachable attitude toward training, development and feedback.
Represent The Texas Tribune : Act as an ambassador for the Tribune, promoting our mission and values to potential partners and donors.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
At least three years of experience in sales, preferably in media advertising or sponsorship sales.
Proven track record of successfully closing deals and exceeding revenue targets.
Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
Strong understanding of the Texas business and political landscape.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple short and long‑term projects simultaneously.
Proficient in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce).
Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable in an intense and high-growth entrepreneurial environment.
Ability to travel occasionally throughout the state; valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
Online sales/business development experience in a digital media environment (i.e., publisher or agency) or tech company, with a background in client service or account management.
Experience with digital advertising and event sponsorships.
An interest in Texas politics and policy.
