Position located in U.S. Naval Academy’s Non‑Appropriated Fund Instrumentality (NAFI), Retail Division of the Naval Academy Business Services Division (NABSD), Annapolis, Maryland.
Summary The purpose of this position is to support all retail operations within NABSD, including the Midshipmen Store, Gift Shop, Barbershop, Uniform Store, Online Store, and any other retail operation.
Duties Customer Service and Retail Duties Achieves daily profitable sales goal by providing exemplary customer service. Responsibilities include greeting customers, maintaining a professional appearance and attitude, engaging in suggestive selling, and adding on to purchases. The incumbent represents USNA and complies with Public Affairs directives. Special order requests from authorized patrons are managed, pricing is communicated, and customers are notified of merchandise receipt. Assistance is given to locate merchandise, outfit new class midshipmen during the annual summer session and as directed, and processing transactions via sales store terminals. Retail reports are completed and submitted to management.
Point of Sales (POS) and Specialized Systems Operates the point‑of‑sale terminal by correctly scanning merchandise, verifying retail prices and product information, and processing sales or returns. Credit card information is secured and receipts issued. Daily register funds are counted and verified, and all cash, checks, bank charges, and midshipman charges are deposited into the drop safe per procedure. End‑of‑day reconciliation is performed.
Inventory Stocks and maintains the sales floor according to the daily sales plan. Assists with pricing, receives and checks merchandise from the warehouse, stocks shelves, and maintains visual displays. Performs repacking of cartons, labeling with proper counts and SKUs, and manages transfers to the warehouse and other retail operations. Transportation of packages is handled using the department van. Spot inventories are conducted as assigned. Supports management during inventory activities and other related tasks.
General Duties Maintains housekeeping standards such as dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal. Provides on‑the‑job training for new sales clerks as needed. May transfer to another retail location. Supports business hours during the week, with potential weekend and holiday shifts. Supports safety and health programs and promotes employee involvement in hazard elimination. Supports EEO policies and communicates them to all coworkers. Maintains all required USNA, DOD, DON, and NABSD training.
Requirements
Must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance – requires applicant to be at least 18 years of age.
Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Verification of employment eligibility in the United States is required.
Probationary period: Flexible employees are employed based on business needs.
Must be able to understand and communicate in English.
Qualifications
Application must include narratives for each KSA, using specific examples to demonstrate qualifications.
Minimum of 6 months of customer service experience; retail experience preferred.
Ability to multi‑task and learn new skills; fast‑paced environment experience preferred.
Basic computer skills and working knowledge of point‑of‑sale (POS).
Experience performing inventory duties – restocking, physical counts, inventory control procedures.
