Assistant Director Department – Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services
Position: Assistant Director Department, leading a team across four Children Community Residences and ensuring that all program objectives are met in line with Agency expectations and best practices.
Purpose The Jewish Board’s Community Behavioral Health treatment programs provide compassionate, high‑quality, evidence‑based services to individuals and families. Staff use a culturally competent, person‑centered approach to help residents develop skills and resources that improve overall functioning, instill hope, and strengthen resiliency. Programs partner with community allies to address health disparities while celebrating community strengths.
Position Overview The Assistant Director works closely with the Program Director to provide leadership for the staff of the four Children Community Residences, ensuring program goals are implemented in accordance with Agency policies.
Essential Functions
Oversee and facilitate the weekly team meetings and provide supervision to Team Leaders.
Use data to identify needs, guide staff, and inform planning and quality service delivery.
Maintain the program to meet residents’ needs, including physical environment, personal needs, food, healthcare, and services.
Oversee direct‑care staff training and orientation.
Maintain active relationships with community agencies, emergency responders, and neighbors.
Network with other mental‑health and child‑welfare agencies and attend OMH meetings as required.
Assist the Director in ensuring all necessary programmatic systems support client safety.
Oversee key administrative staff (Team Leaders) and ensure compliance with policies.
Assist with adherence to the program’s budgetary parameters.
Participate in ITM implementation.
Directly supervise Team Leaders in all four Community Residences.
Be available by phone after hours for program‑related issues reported beyond the Administrator on Duty and report to the Director as necessary.
Other responsibilities as directed.
Additional Functions
Participate in intakes, assessments, and discharge follow‑up.
Participate in regular staff meetings and training.
Travel to offsite meetings and training courses as needed.
Commit to recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed practice.
Maintain excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
Demonstrate cultural competency.
Engage residents effectively.
Use strong verbal and written communication skills.
Pay attention to detail.
Work independently and as part of a team.
Hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive the agency van.
Educational / Training Required
LMSW or a master’s degree in a related field that can be licensed.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in children’s residential or mental‑health settings (plus).
At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Computer skills.
Valid driver’s license is required for insurance compliance.

Experience Required / Language Preference
Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Team‑player ability.
Visual and Manual Dexterity The candidate must read paper and electronic documents and perform data entry into various computer programs. Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination are required to travel independently using public transportation and/or a vehicle.
Work Environment / Physical Effort
Services are provided in the community and office.
Sites may or may not be accessible in accordance with the ADA.
Risks and hazards include traveling around New York City.
