Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented
Primate Enrichment Specialist
to join our animal care team. This role is critical to ensuring the physical and psychological well-being of the primates under our care through the development and implementation of enrichment programs. You will work closely with animal care staff, veterinarians, and other behavioral specialists to provide stimulating environments that promote natural behaviors and enhance welfare.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, prepare, and implement daily enrichment activities for primates in accordance with established welfare standards.
Monitor and document behavioral responses to enrichment, adjusting strategies as needed.
Maintain enrichment supplies and equipment, ensuring safety and compliance with protocols.
Assist in behavioral observations as required.
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and biosecurity guidelines
Communicate issues or questions promptly to supervisors or veterinary staff
Be available to work rotating weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts (e.g., Tuesday–Saturday)
Perform other duties as assigned, including animal husbandry as needed
Perform supervised/ directed behavioral management tasks as assigned by Behavioral Leadership or Veterinary Leadership
Experience / Qualifications:
Prior experience with non-human primates required and demonstrated knowledge of animal behavior, welfare principles, and enrichment techniques.
Comfortable working outdoors in a range of weather conditions
Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
Detail-oriented with good observation and recordkeeping skills
Strong work ethic, team-oriented mindset, and ability to work independently
Willingness to work with non-human primates and follow strict animal welfare protocols
Ability to work in PPE, including use of N95s, is required for the position when actively providing care for the NHPs
