Philanthropic Advisor-I (Foundation Relations)

Overview:
Scouting America seeks an exceptional Philanthropic Advisor-I who excels at building trust‑based relationships to advance our mission. The Advisor-I develops and manages high‑value relationships with foundations and major gift prospects capable of making leadership gifts of $500,000 or more. The role focuses on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major prospects/foundations through personalized engagement, strategic planning, and consistent follow‑through.
Key responsibilities:
Personally cultivates and solicits a minimum of 15–30 prospective donors from a portfolio of 50–80 prospects annually.
Develops relationships with foundations capable of awarding at least $500,000 in support of Scouting America.
Provides fundraising counsel to national and council leaders, executes strategic plans that increase philanthropy through gifts, pledges, and planned gifts, and actively participates in major donor stewardship.
Prepares reports and plans for follow‑up of major donor cultivation strategy and provides regular internal reporting.
Tracks interactions with prospects through effective use of the Development CRM database and provides weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics to management.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
Strong knowledge of the philanthropic sector, laws, regulations, business acumen, and strategic planning; experience securing major gifts, annual giving, and planned giving.
Proficient writing, editing, and proofreading skills; excellent customer service and communication skills; high professionalism, confidence, flexibility, and teamwork; intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and proprietary software; strong planning and research skills; high personal and professional integrity.
Ability to energize the organization, prioritize, organize, manage multiple assignments, work well in a team, and develop relationships with staff, community members, elected officials, media, foundation colleagues, and the nonprofit sector.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
Qualifications:
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in major/principal gift fundraising and prospect management, business development, or related field.
Must pass a criminal history background check.
Preference:
Interest in philanthropy and the non‑profit community.
