Oncology Director of Advanced Practice Providers.

We are seeking a transformational, visionary leader to provide system-wide leadership of all oncology APPs and be a core member of the service line and section leadership team. You will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), which includes advanced practice nurse practitioners (NP), physician assistants (PA), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) who participate in clinical service coverage models. This role functions as the primary resource regarding APP recruitment and retention, scope of practice, utilization and collaborative practice models, credentialing, orientation, competency, professional development, student placement and compliance.

The Director will provide leadership to APPs through excellent management, coaching, mentoring, and professional development, ensuring APPs are aligned with organizational mission, values, and goals. The Director will cultivate and foster an empowered and engaged workforce by establishing and maintaining a practice environment consistent with UCM’s commitment to patient- and family-centered care, new knowledge and innovation, team collaboration, and evidence-based practice. By building collaborative relationships with multiple counterparts and key stakeholders, including clinical home leaders, physicians, nursing, and administrative leadership, the Director will ensure the advancement of organizational goals, programs, and projects.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Advanced Practice Providers, the successful candidate will be a strategic partner for the direction of oncology APPs. While developing and managing an oncology APP program that exemplifies best practices in the field, you will also have a unique opportunity to collaborate with other leaders as we open Chicago’s first freestanding facility in 2027 dedicated to breakthroughs in cancer care and research. Our new 500,000 square foot cancer pavilion will be a place of hope, healing, and scientific discoveries that meaningfully advance cancer care for patients and our community.

Who you are:

A collaborative and strategic APP leader with:

Graduate of a formal advanced practice nurse, physician assistant, clinical nurse specialist, first assist or certified nurse anesthetist program.

Minimum of 10 years of oncology experience as an advanced practice provider.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a clinical leader.

Licensed Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in the state of Illinois.

Licensed advanced practice nurse practitioners (NP), physician assistants (PA), or Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) in the state of Illinois.

Advanced Practice Nurse or PA controlled substance license in the state of Illinois.

Specialty board certification as a nurse practitioner with a major focus on adult care.

Completion of AHA Basic Life Support.

Completion of AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Course.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Prior experience managing large projects and working effectively in multidisciplinary groups.

Proven ability to lead change, organize teams and delegate effectively.

What you’ll do as Oncology Director of Advanced Practice Providers :

Collaborate with administrative and clinical home leaders to operationalize the infrastructure for APPs in order to successfully integrate APPs across the oncology service line.

Ensure APP inclusion in multi-disciplinary activities by chairing or serving as members of various committees that contribute to clinical care.

Participate in the Magnet designation process to ensure APP representation throughout the process.

Serve as an expert resource in the utilization and integration of established and emerging APP practice models across multiple venues of care throughout the enterprise.

Ensure that APPs receive effective feedback on performance and have actionable development plans, while determining opportunities for APPs to increase knowledge and skills aligned with their education, licensure and experience.

Remain clinically relevant by providing 10% effort in clinical practice.
