Proposals Manager
Manage the department that develops proposals. Proposals are often complex, primarily in aerospace and defense, and support Federal Government and commercial opportunities. Responsible for managing material and labor estimators and for analyzing Requests for Quotation (RFQ's) and providing advice on bid strategy, risk assessment, and price data requirements.
Who are we? Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Starting as a hardware supply store during the California Gold Rush and eventually assisted in the birth of the aerospace industry in Southern California by providing aircraft aluminum to early aerospace pioneers like Lindbergh, Douglas and Lockheed.
Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission‑critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications.
Our Facility in Appleton, WI manufactures state‑of‑the‑art circuit boards for Aerospace and Defense as well as Industrial and Medical Industries.
Job Summary
Manage the receipt, preparation, and submittal of quotes to the review team for final review; includes cost, technical, and management proposals as required
Integrate proposal input from team members, edit and proofread final document for completeness, accuracy and quality; includes review of all labor, material and Non‑Recurring Engineering (NRE) estimates; together with rate structures and budgets for each bid
Key member of final bid/quote review team to establish competitive guidelines and recommend strategy
Communicate to customers and internal staff during bid process and follow‑up after award
Provide labor and material budgets upon award
Adhere to General Requirements of Team Members
Perform other assignments as required
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree Industrial Engineering, Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent
Minimum 5 years' experience in estimating or related field
Demonstrated project management experience-planning, budget, allocation of resources
Negotiation and conflict management skills coupled with demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and problem‑solving
Ability to supervise employees, provide mentoring, and resolve issues
Exceptional organization skills are required with emphasis on attention to details
Excellent written and verbal skills
Flexible with high energy, able to handle multiple tasks smoothly
Very organized, detail‑oriented, with attention to accuracy
Abilities listed in the General Requirements of Team Members
Preferred Skills and Experience
3 years supervisory experience
Experience within electrical or electronic manufacturing
Advanced ERP and Microsoft Office skills (e‑mail, Word, Excel), intermediate level Power Point, and Access preferred
