Research Analyst - Emerging Markets Special Situations
As an Equity Analyst - Emerging Market Special Situations, you will play a crucial role in identifying and analyzing investment opportunities across emerging markets. You will develop high-conviction trade ideas, conduct in-depth fundamental and event-driven research, and communicate insights to institutional clients. Your expertise in macroeconomic trends, corporate actions, and market inefficiencies will be critical in helping our clients make informed trading decisions.
Responsibilities include:
Conduct fundamental and valuation analysis on emerging market equities affected by special situations, including distressed assets, restructurings, and regulatory changes. Analyze capital structures and credit markets to identify key risks and opportunities within distressed and restructuring scenarios. Monitor macro trends, sovereign risks, and political dynamics that impact emerging market equities and investment flows. Identify market inefficiencies and catalysts that can drive valuation re-ratings in emerging market equities. Develop and publish compelling, client-focused investment recommendations that align with market trends and institutional investor strategies. Collaborate with traders and sales teams to translate research insights into executable trade ideas for clients. Prepare and present high-quality equity research reports, investment notes, and market insights to institutional clients. Provide real-time market color and updates on corporate actions, earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments. Engage with institutional clients to discuss trade ideas and market views. Work closely with sales & trading teams to support client requests and generate trading activity. Track real-time market developments, including central bank actions, capital flow trends, and emerging market credit spreads. Stay ahead of regulatory and policy changes that impact foreign investment and capital markets. Provide insights on cross-border M&A, activist campaigns, and government interventions in key emerging markets.
Requirements
Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to think outside the box. Ability to write clear, concise, and compelling research reports and present ideas effectively to institutional clients. Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills - able to interact with people of all levels in a confident, professional manner and effectively present complex information in a clear and concise manner. Solid understanding of financial statements, financial modeling techniques, and investment analysis concepts. Proficiency in data gathering, analysis, and synthesis using various tools, including Excel, financial databases, and research platforms. Strong attention to detail with strong follow-up and ability to maintain accuracy while working with large volumes of data. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and establish effective working relationships with colleagues. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Commitment to excellence - perform duties at the highest level possible on a consistent basis.
Education And Experience
Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field. 3+ years in equity research or a similar role focused on emerging markets. Strong understanding of special situations investing, including restructurings, distressed assets, and event-driven opportunities. Strong proficiency in financial modeling, equity valuation, and risk assessment. Ability to quickly assess complex situations, extract key insights, and articulate investment cases clearly. Active FINRA licenses including Series 7, 63, 86, and 87 (or willingness to obtain prior to hire).
