Community Engagement Student Assistant Join the Morgridge Institute for Research as a Community Engagement Student Assistant to support programs that spark scientific curiosity and serve society in partnership with the UW‑Madison.

Description Community engagement at the Morgridge Institute extends beyond the laboratory and includes students, teachers, researchers, and the general public.

In this role you will contribute to the development and delivery of STEM experiences to K‑12 audiences, the public in the Discovery Building, and off‑site at community centers, schools, and the Summer Science Camp.

You will also support the setup, execution, and cleanup of scientific staff events and assist with lab management and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

Assist in all phases of community engagement programming, including event setup, field trips, and classroom management.

Support the Wisconsin Science Festival and Science Expeditions.

Help prepare and deliver hands‑on experiences and educational content.

Provide lab management and administrative assistance as needed.

Stay overnight in campus dorms during the Summer Science Camp.

Qualifications

Must be an enrolled UW‑Madison student.

Experience with science communication, public speaking, teaching, or research is a plus.

Demonstrate strong attention to detail, minimal supervision work, professional conduct, effective oral and written communication, and customer‑service skills.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

Commitment to a minimum of 10‑15 hours per week during school semesters, 9:00‑1:00 pm with possible additional hours over the summer.

Availability for weekend and evening hours as needed; daytime on‑site weekday availability is required.
