Design Draw Build (DDB) Inc is seeking a resourceful, and ambitious architect to join our team. THE ROLE
The Job Captain is a core member of the studio and design team. The Job Captain is an individual who listens and contributes to a creative design dialogue, and who likes to experiment with new ideas and materials. You will participate in technical project development from early design phases through construction administration, working closely with the Project Manager delegating tasks to junior staff and coordinating with Consultants. Successful candidates in this role will be able to take direction, work independently, and provide structured guidance to our ambitious junior staff. The Job Captain is a team player and who takes responsibility for project delivery. Curiosity, resourcefulness & self-motivation are essential. The ideal candidate is a Job Captain who wants to become a Project Manager. In this position, the Job Captain reports directly to the Principal in the Architecture studio with support from Project Managers. RESPONSIBILITIES
Management of complete architectural projects, including document control, client interaction, and construction administration.
Assist Project Manager in planning and managing project budgets, schedules and tasking assignments. Help oversee the day to day progress of designers and junior staff.
Monitor project progress, ensure project deliverables are submitted on time to the client, and timeline is met within allocated hours.
Forward thinking, proactively identifying and resolving technical design details
Interface and coordinating with consultants throughout the project (Structural, T24, MEP, Surveyor, Civil, Geotech)
Coordinating drawings and specifications, plan check comments w/ Consultants
Develop complete sets of planning and construction documents in accordance with municipal and building codes.
Conduct research on feasibility and code reviews for architectural and construction projects.
Facilitation of permits working with local jurisdictions and municipalities
Development of project presentation materials or design packages with the support of design staff, including finished project renderings and diagrams.
Coordination with Construction Managers and builders to facilitate construction administration during the build process.
Work with interior designer on projects as needed
Prepare mood boards, use of space, color schemes, materials, fixtures
Prepare takeoffs, specifications, selections and sourcing
Interior elevations
Attending the weekly Design Studio Meeting on Monday mornings;
Arrive prepared to discuss project progress to date, and the week's goals and deliverables
Preparing architectural drawings using
Revit , AutoCAD, and Sketchup.
Must be proficient in Revit
Seek peer review and redline from Studio members, provide editing and revisions for studio team members
Working with our primary renderer, to develop project imagery and ensure that it meets client’s expectations.
Revising architectural plans as marked and thoroughly communicate to team members that are affected by any changes
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
B’Arch required or higher in Architecture from an accredited program
3-5 years of progressive experience in an Architecture firm with significant experience in CD production
California Experience preferred, not required
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCad, & Adobe Creative Suite
Ability to work calmly under pressure, prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
Strong technical skills with an eye for detail for design
Home-building, construction or design-build related experience preferred
California Building code knowledge preferred
Driver’s license and clean driving record required
Excellent administrative skills, organized, detail-oriented, file management
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
Collaborate with team members and be a team player
Able to accept constructive feedback and work independently
Ability to collaborate with team members and be a team player
Fun, positive attitude, and pleasant to work with
Self- motivated, with strong work ethic and desire growth
Licensure, not required - path to architectural licensure is a plus
