Human Interface Design – Motion Systems Group Manager
Drive the future of automotive experiences as the manager of GM’s Motion Systems Group. This leadership role defines how every interaction in the vehicle feels, moves, and communicates brand intent through motion.
What We Do
In‑vehicle motion language: interface animation, timing models, expressive brand behaviors, and kinetic systems.
Cross‑platform guidance: mobile apps, web portals, infotainment systems, and hardware switch configurations.
Design system foundations: scalable motion systems, motion principles, guidelines, and reusable libraries.
Collaborative product impact: partner with engineering, UX, Identity, 3D, sound, and product managers to deliver cohesive, technically achievable motion experiences.
Responsibilities
Lead, scale, and mentor the Motion team; onboard, grow, and develop a trusted group of experts.
Own motion strategy and motion design for the vehicle OS and digital cabin ecosystem.
Define and communicate motion guidelines, timing models, easing, and behavior rules across GM brands.
Partner with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality motion for product, vision, and storytelling use.
Build and maintain scalable motion libraries and motion systems that support product teams across platforms.
Coach designers on motion principles, storytelling, and technical implementation details.
Qualifications (Required)
10+ years of professional experience in motion design, UX design, or related fields.
Strong portfolio showcasing motion storytelling, animation quality, and design system work.
Deep understanding of human interface design best practices and brand strategy.
Autonomous self‑starter who identifies problem areas, iterates quickly, and communicates clarity.
Excellent communication skills: articulate why a motion decision works over another and champion the design narrative.
Technical comfort: work with engineers to understand functional requirements and deliver achievable motion solutions.
Preferred (Competitive Edge)
3+ years of people‑leadership experience in a design team.
Examples of global motion executions with clear differentiation across brands.
Experience designing for non‑traditional interfaces (voice, wearable, automotive).
Established motion systems, principles, and guidelines launched as product deliverables.
Portfolio Submission
