Organization CP Rochester and Happiness House are private nonprofit health, educational, residential and human service organizations that have been serving communities in the Finger Lakes Region since 1969 and the Greater Rochester area since 1946. With sites in Rochester, Canandaigua, Geneva, Gorham, Midlakes and Waterloo, we offer educational, therapeutic, recreational, residential and family support programs for children and adults with and without disabilities. We serve an average of 3,650 families each year and employ approximately 600 people.

Position Title Recreation Specialist Pickleball – Part Time

Location Dinkers – East Rochester, NY

Compensation & Signing Bonus Hourly wage: $15.50 per hour.

Signing bonus: $250, paid as follows: 25% ($62.50) in the pay period following the 3‑month anniversary, 25% ($62.50) in the pay period following the 6‑month anniversary, and 50% ($125) in the pay period following the 1‑year anniversary of employment.

Hours of Employment Part‑time, Monday evenings 5‑6 p.m. at Dinkers, East Rochester.

Summary / Objective This position ensures all recreation services provided by the agency are individually focused, promote independence, productivity, and choice. The Recreation Specialist will also integrate these services into the community, maintain cost‑effectiveness, and ensure high quality as rated by individuals and funders.

Essential Functions

Imparts agency philosophy of "Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential" to individuals, families, staff and community resources.

Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and families in accordance with agency policy.

Communicates mission, vision, organizational values and program goals to employees.

Works collaboratively to create and implement community‑based recreation programs.

Communicates effectively with peers, service providers, individuals, caregivers, family members, and community to ensure services are individually focused and promote independence, productivity and choice.

Provides oversight to ensure safety and supervision of individuals.

Completes all necessary documentation and reports in a timely manner.

Communicates with supervisor and director to assess progress and solve problems.

Responsible for water safety and supervision of consumers, both children and adults, and staff during swim sessions.

Initiates first aid, water rescues and emergency procedures as necessary.

Communicates agency, regulatory body and departmental policies in a positive manner and shares important safety information.

Complies with regulatory and agency audits.

Attends meetings as assigned and communicates information to peers.

Participates in conferences, workshops and in‑service training to enhance skills and development.

Adheres to agency policies and department guidelines.

Position Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required. A higher education degree in recreation or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.

Experience in providing recreational services to individuals of all ages and abilities.

First Aid and CPR certification (Red Cross or equivalent) required.

Demonstrated ability to plan and organize the daily operations of a program.

Effectively communicates orally and in writing.

Exerts good judgment in planning, implementing and evaluating programs with individuals, customers, and employees.

Manages stressful interactions and situations.

Uses Microsoft Office and electronic health record programs relevant to the job.

Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to travel within the Rochester area.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Reliable transportation to travel between locations.

Ability to drive a pickup truck and trailer preferred.

Physical Demands Must routinely talk or hear, sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with consumer transfers. Ability to push and pull 250–300 pounds in a wheelchair.

Travel Primarily local during the day and evenings; may be required to work at partner agencies or community partner locations. Some out‑of‑area travel may be expected.
