
Senior Managing Counsel, Regulatory

JW Michaels is engaged with a leading global financial technology company operating in the electronic payments space. RTO: 3 days/week. The client facilitates secure transactions and payment services across international markets, helping businesses and consumers connect worldwide. The client specializes in regulated payment solutions that enable the movement of funds across borders, with technology addressing compliance requirements, risk management, foreign exchange, and messaging for a diverse base of financial institutions and digital commerce platforms.
We're seeking a lawyer to lead the client's regulatory compliance program for their global portfolio of money transmission and payment services licenses. The ideal candidate is a seasoned regulatory attorney with demonstrated expertise in payments regulation and a compliance champion with experience building and supporting compliance management programs.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute regulatory strategy, including regulator engagement and advocacy efforts
Serve as a liaison to business and functional departments in connection with regulatory engagements including examinations, meetings and other interactions
Manage external counsel as necessary, and review/analyze regulatory advice for advancing strategic initiatives
Provide regulatory advice to business stakeholders on product development and operational matters
Drive the design and implementation of compliance management policies and controls
Provide periodic reports to senior management on emerging regulatory obligations
Coordinate regulatory examinations and management responses
Identify and manage regulatory changes, assisting product owners to develop creative solutions
Maintain strong industry knowledge of regulations, changes, trends and impacts to the business
Qualifications
Between 7-12 years of experience post law school;
Experience managing other colleagues internationally;
Experience managing regulatory supervision;
Experience in cross-border payments and developing/managing related regulatory compliance programs for large bank or non-bank financial institution
Proven success navigating a multi-national organization and operating effectively within a diverse multicultural organization
Self-starter/motivated to work independently and as an effective team member
Strong analytical capabilities and excellent written/oral communication skills
Knowledge of Money Transmitter regulations and license requirements
Current or prior experience IN-HOUSE is a MUST
