Process Piping Estimator
in
San Leandro, CA . This role provides and coordinates all estimating services for Process Piping / Mechanical projects, with a focus on accuracy, thoroughness, and profitability. The Estimator will also cultivate relationships with Estimating Departments within targeted General Contractors, particularly in industrial / commercial construction sectors such as biopharmaceutical and semiconductor projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
Business Development & Opportunity Evaluation • Regularly contact Pre-Construction Departments of targeted General Contractors to identify opportunities. • Evaluate opportunities to ensure alignment with the business model, competitive advantages, and profitability targets.
Estimating & Project Preparation • Review all plans, P&IDs, specifications, and contracts to identify potential impacts on the work. • Operate computer-based takeoff and estimating systems for reproducible results. • Coordinate drawings, scopes, and points of contact with other trades. • Prepare RFIs and solicit pricing from vendors and subcontractors. • Prepare recaps, general conditions, schedules, and letters for projects. • Run job reports in preparation for bid review with Estimating Manager.
Project Support & Tracking • Assist in selling projects, including scope of supply development, presentations, negotiations, and closing. • Participate in kickoff meetings, presenting scope, work plan, budget, and any limitations. • Assist in tracking labor productivity units. • Participate in daily staff meetings to identify scope deviations, monitor production, and forecast future work. • Assist with developing alternate plans to recover projects not meeting budgeted performance.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required • 3+ years estimating large-scale construction projects related to high-purity process piping. • Proficiency in estimating software (FastPIPE / FastDUCT, Trimble Autobid, Bluebeam, QuickPen, etc.). • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred • Deep experience in semiconductor and/or biopharmaceutical construction projects. • Field, craft, or piping trade experience, or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. • Understanding of adjacent piping systems (plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
Physical Requirements • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk. • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times. • Sufficient vision to read printed and digital documents. • Ability to climb ladders, access and egress trenches, attics, or confined spaces. • Hearing ability to communicate in noisy environments and recognize alarms, signals, and verbal instructions. • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed. • Ability to grasp, handle, and manipulate small objects.
