Process Piping Estimator

in

Cypress, CA . The role focuses on preparing and coordinating estimates for Process Piping / Mechanical projects with precision and profitability in mind. The Estimator will also develop and maintain strong relationships with General Contractors’ Estimating Departments, particularly in industrial and commercial construction sectors such as biopharmaceutical and semiconductor facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Business Development & Opportunity Assessment

Engage with Pre-Construction Departments of targeted General Contractors to identify upcoming projects.

Evaluate project opportunities to ensure alignment with company strategy, maximize competitive advantages, and meet profit goals.

Estimating & Project Preparation

Review drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and contracts to assess impacts on work scope.

Utilize computer-based takeoff and estimating systems to produce reliable and consistent estimates.

Coordinate scopes, drawings, and points of contact with other trades.

Prepare RFIs, gather vendor/subcontractor pricing, and develop project recaps, schedules, and letters.

Generate reports for bid review sessions with the Estimating Manager.

Project Support & Tracking

Assist in pre-bid and project selling activities, including defining scope of supply, presentations, and negotiations.

Participate in project kickoff meetings to present scope, work plan, budgets, and potential limitations.

Monitor labor productivity units and track progress against estimates.

Attend daily staff meetings to review scope changes, production updates, and implement corrective measures as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

3+ years estimating industrial or commercial construction projects focused on high-purity process piping.

Proficiency in estimating software such as FastPIPE / FastDUCT, Trimble Autobid, Bluebeam, or QuickPen.

Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred

Experience in semiconductor and/or biopharmaceutical construction.

Background in field work, piping trades, or a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Knowledge of related piping systems including plumbing and HVAC.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit for extended periods at a workstation.

Capability to lift items up to 15 pounds occasionally.

Adequate vision for reading printed and digital materials.

Ability to climb ladders and access trenches, attics, or confined spaces.

Hearing sufficient for communication in noisy environments; ability to recognize alarms and instructions.

Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Dexterity to handle small objects and tools.
