Rate of Pay:
$26.61–$31.00 per hour
SUMMARY Join the City of Fort Wayne Utilities team as a Plant Operator ensuring clean water and environmental safety for our community. This position operates and maintains water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring compliance with IDEM and EPA standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor and regulate treatment processes, pumps, and equipment
Collect samples and perform laboratory tests for quality control
Adjust chemical feeds and treatment rates as needed
Maintain security and safety procedures at facilities
Record data, complete logs, and report operational issues
Assist with preventive maintenance, inspections, and chemical deliveries
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED and two years related experience
Science-related degree preferred
Must obtain required certifications (Wastewater Class II within 3 years, WT-5 within 4 years)
Valid Indiana Driver's License and CPR/First Aid certification
Ability to read technical documents, perform mathematical calculations, and follow safety procedures
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to mechanical equipment, chemicals, and outdoor weather
Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs, loud noise levels, and wastewater environments
