The UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies’ International Programs department houses the English Language Institute (ELI) and the International Student Services Office (ISS). The ISS Office supports students across International Programs, including those enrolled in the ELI, and oversees the Cultural Ambassador Program (CAP). The purpose of CAP is to give International Programs (IP) students at the ELI an opportunity to practice their English with native or highly proficient English speakers in the classroom and interact with local community members. Community Ambassadors facilitate conversations with students in ELI conversation classes and other IP-sponsored activities.
A reasonable estimate of compensation for assisting one section of this course is $200-$240. The current hourly rate for this position is $17.75 per hour to start. Instructional assignments are made on a section-by-section basis at the discretion of the University with no guarantee to assist future sections of this course or any other courses.
As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; are currently being investigated for misconduct; left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct; or have filed an appeal with a previous employer. "Misconduct" means any violation of the policies or laws governing conduct at the applicant's previous place of employment, including, but not limited to, violations of policies or laws prohibiting sexual harassment, sexual assault, or other forms of harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct, as defined by the employer.

The primary duties of the Community Ambassador include facilitating small group conversations in Conversation classes, leading campus tours, assisting with new student orientations, and chaperoning activities around San Diego and Southern California.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent understanding and proficient use of the English language
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with limited-English speakers
Desire to work with a diverse international population
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Cultural Ambassador Agreement outlines the deliverables, schedule, and compensation terms. If the course section is canceled, rights to future compensation are voided.
