Area Sales Manager - Building Products - Essex / East Anglia

The Role Reporting to: Southern Regional Director
As Area Sales Manager the aim of your role will be to strengthen relationships with the company’s key merchant accounts (inc. Merchant Buying Groups and Independents), create demand via contractors, specialist sub‑contractors and groundworkers, source leads through project tracking and breaking specifications to ultimately bring orders back through the merchant network. The role involves actively servicing and managing the East Anglia region.
Specific duties include:
Develop existing relationships and create new ones so that our client is the customer’s 1st choice for their range of products.
Understand the specification process.
Track and follow up on project opportunities from tender stage.
Raise the company’s profile within its existing key stockist base, setting up business plans and sharing project information.
Deliver training and product presentations to contractors and merchants.
Negotiate prices within agreed parameters to give the company the best margin opportunities.
Deal with customers’ day‑to‑day requirements.
Knowledge of reading site drawings would be helpful.
Promote and sell new product ranges.
Achieve agreed targets.
Where necessary, assist with new product development areas.
Identify key installing contractors, setting up trading terms and building long‑term business objectives.
Essential Knowledge and Experience Required In order to be successful in this role you’ll need a strong knowledge of the construction supply chain, experience managing your own geographical area and the ability to work as part of a dedicated field‑based team. In addition you will need:
A track record of solution selling.
Competent IT skills, including MS Office & Outlook.
Previous experience utilizing a CRM.
Good communication skills with a friendly approach.
The ability to work under pressure with excellent attention to detail.
A high degree of professionalism and a good understanding of specifier, contractor and merchant relationships, with the ability to communicate at each of these levels where necessary.
