Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter
Midwest Region | Hybrid Carmel IN or Field Based IL or MO
Our client is seeking a Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter to support profitable growth and retention in the Midwest Region. This role partners closely with assigned agents to meet profitability and production goals through sound underwriting, strong field presence, and excellent relationship building.
The Underwriter will manage the pricing and underwriting of a defined territory, handling both new and renewal business, and will be trusted with local authority decision making.
Location and Work Arrangement
Hybrid schedule if based in the Carmel Indiana regional office
Field based role if located in Illinois or Missouri
Quarterly travel in the territory
Key Responsibilities
Underwrite and price a commercial multi line book including workers compensation, inland marine, commercial auto, commercial property, general liability and umbrella
Analyze risk quality, coverage and pricing in line with company guidelines and appetite
Develop and maintain strong relationships with appointed agents, driving profitable growth
Collaborate with loss control and other internal partners to improve account performance
Use local authority to make sound underwriting decisions that support long term profitability
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Relevant progressively responsible work experience may be substituted year for year for the required education
Four or more years of commercial multi line property and casualty underwriting experience
Experience underwriting both new and renewal accounts
Strong experience with commercial lines including workers compensation, inland marine, commercial auto, commercial property, general liability and umbrella
Advanced knowledge of P and C insurance forms and rating rules
Solid understanding of underwriting and loss control principles
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Industry designations such as CIC or CPCU are preferred but not required
Compensation
Base salary +
Target bonus 12 percent with a maximum of 24 percent
For candidates with seven to eight or more years of experience, the client may consider a Specialist level title and compensation
This role reports to an Underwriting leader in the Midwest Region who is also field based.
