Field Property Claims Adjuster (NW MI)

This position is located in the NW territory of MI and will service Leelanau, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Isabella, Midland and Montcalm counties.
Summary Under limited supervision and with independent judgment, investigates, evaluates, and resolves or disposes of general property claims to determine the extent of company liability, including determination and evaluation of coverage, compensability liability, and damage in accordance with policy provisions.
Responsibilities
Follow corporate policies, procedures, and fair claims handling practices.
Investigate claims to determine validity and extent of liability.
Obtain information necessary to properly investigate and evaluate each case by corresponding with agents, insureds, claimants, witnesses and others.
Review and evaluate documentation, including applications, reports, and statements.
Monitor appropriate claim outcomes through a self‑audit process.
Deliver superior customer service to policyholders and agents, ensuring appropriate and timely resolution of claims service issues.
Ensure legal, regulatory and fair claims handling compliance.
Set or recommend reserves based on claim investigation results.
Within defined authority, manage, evaluate and conclude claims, and prepare and maintain claim reports.
Provide extensive interaction with insureds, agents, claimants, attorneys, and other service providers, including conducting in‑depth interviews and/or scene inspections and attending settlement conferences and/or trials.
Serve as a member of project teams, contributing to the achievement of project objectives.
Provide leadership to junior staff by training and guidance, and give input to management regarding junior staff performance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Level 5: Four to six years of related experience and/or training; or a bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience/training.
