Position Overview S:US is seeking a

Housing Specialist

for their homeless prevention services facility, Homebase, located in Washington Heights, New York, NY. The role is focused on providing housing support and related services to residents as part of our comprehensive care approach.

Salary:

USD $42,000.00/year – $47,737.57/year

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Interview clients to assess housing needs and status, and submit appropriate applications to community resources.

Conduct group sessions to discuss housing options and how to secure an apartment.

Accompany residents to housing interviews, housing fairs, and complete housing applications when necessary.

Provide housing resources (e.g., landlord contacts, housing programs) and act as liaison between landlords and clients.

Refer residents for physicals, a PPD, and other required medical services within two weeks of facility entry.

Obtain an accurate history of client housing situation to assess needed services.

Facilitate Tier II interviews and act as liaison between Tier II shelter and client.

Submit housing applications for all available programs (Section 8, NYCHA, etc.).

Handle requests for extensions to be submitted to HRA.

Refer residents to public assistance and monitor compliance with HRA and the ADVENT program.

Negotiate, assess, and assist client needs concerning benefits and manage the client case from entry to discharge.

Assist and escort residents to HRA/social service agency appointments when necessary.

Participate in staff meetings, service plan reviews, and clinical team meetings.

Maintain accurate records and progress notes in the client chart.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.

Two years in the human services field with knowledge of trauma.

Good interpersonal skills; able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Solid computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field.

Bilingual English/Spanish speaking.
