Las Vegas Rescue Mission
is hiring a skilled and dependable
Senior Cook
to support our kitchen and dining operations. We serve
three meals a day, 365 days a year
to clients in our
Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program ,
Men’s and Women’s Overnight Shelter , and to members of the community through our
evening Community Meal .
Position Overview As a
Senior Cook , you will play a key role in the preparation, planning, and service of daily meals. You will ensure kitchen operations run smoothly, food is prepared safely and efficiently, and the environment remains clean and welcoming for all. This position reports to the
Kitchen Supervisor
and supports the Mission’s overall goal of serving with compassion, dignity, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Clock in and check in with the Kitchen Supervisor to receive daily updates.
Prepare ingredients and cook meals for assigned shifts, following health and safety standards.
Assist with menu planning as needed.
Accurately label and store all products, including weekly deliveries and donated items.
Keep refrigerators and freezers organized, properly labeled, and within safe temperature ranges.
Lead food service during assigned meal periods by working the service line.
Oversee and participate in deep cleaning tasks for kitchen and dining areas, including equipment and floors.
Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean, operational, and any maintenance issues are promptly reported.
Monitor and report inventory needs to the Kitchen Supervisor for timely ordering.
Support the Work Therapy Program, mentoring residents as they learn culinary and workplace skills.
Provide a welcoming, positive experience for all volunteers, helping them feel valued and integrated into the Mission’s work.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment at the end of each shift, ensuring trash and cardboard are removed.
Attend staff meetings and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work on your feet for 8 hours and lift up to 50 lbs.
Valid Southern Nevada Health District Food Handler Safety Training Card.
Knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to service and community.
