Pay Range Base pay: $17.00/hr – $33.00/hr (actual pay will be based on skills and experience).
Description Do you enjoy working outdoors? Are you skilled in grounds or landscaping maintenance? Do you have a passion for well‑kept grounds and gardens? If so, we’re looking for you to join our team at APL. We are seeking a dependable grounds keeper to help us maintain a level of aesthetic excellence at our premier research and development center.
Responsibilities
Assist with the beautification of property for the premier research and development center of Howard County.
Trim, edge, and mow lawn areas using commercial walk‑behind and riding mowers and other gasoline‑powered equipment.
Mulch and weed planting bed areas; prune, trim trees, plants, and shrubs; report evidence of disease or pests.
Rake leaves, collect trash, and perform other grounds maintenance clean‑up duties as needed.
Maintain assigned tools and equipment in clean and good working order.
Assist the Snow Crew during inclement weather.
Use personal protective equipment; work outside during inclement weather conditions; climb ladders, work at heights, lift and carry 50 lbs; and use APL vehicles in the course of daily operations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; math and language skills to that of a high school graduate.
Knowledge and skill to operate hand and power tools to maintain turf, paved, and landscaped areas of commercial or residential properties.
Capability to operate commercial mowing equipment (walk‑behind, gas‑powered weed eaters, edgers, back‑pack blowers, hand tools, tractors, and snow removal equipment).
Effective communication skills and knowledge of rules, regulations, and guidelines of applicable codes.
Valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license in good standing.
Ability or willingness to obtain a valid DOT medical card.
Willingness to work a 6:00 am to 2:30 pm shift Monday through Friday, with overtime as required; shift assignments may occasionally change to meet business needs.
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and lift and carry 50 lbs.
U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL’s facilities and networks.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with erosion control, grading, and seeding.
Tree‑pruning experience with an understanding of disease and pest evidence.
Snow removal experience.
Basic computer skills.
