This position assists in administering the State Soldiers Assistance Program and the Recently Separated Veterans Program. Responsibilities include processing applications, creating payments in the Computerized Veterans Benefits Program, creating and maintaining vendors in SWIFT, processing new discharge documentation from the Department of Defense, and mailing time‑sensitive material to recently separated Veterans. The position reports to the Deputy Director of Veterans Benefits and receives lead‑work direction from the Senior Veterans Benefits Administrative Specialist. It provides administrative support to the Veterans Benefits Division and the office of the Director of Veterans Benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of communications sufficient to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.

Skill in customer service sufficient to provide prompt and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written or electronic correspondence.

Keyboarding/typing skills sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy.

Computer software skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint sufficient to develop, modify, and generate forms, reports, correspondence, etc.

Skill in document and records management sufficient to maintain electronic or paper files for efficient organization and retrieval of information such as contracts, grants, agreements, and other various documents.

Skill in math sufficient to calculate totals, averages, and percentages of numbers and/or data.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with accounting/financial tracking systems/software.

Experience with SWIFT and the creation of purchase orders.

Additional Requirements

Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists.

Finalists may be required to pass a driver's license check.

A Minnesota Department of Human Services background check may be conducted on top finalists; the finalist must pass the DHS background check.
