This is a non-exempt position that reports directly to the Golf Maintenance Superintendent. Under the direction of the Golf Maintenance Superintendent, this position is responsible for overseeing a seasonal work crew involving all maintenance functions of the Golf Course, with a primary focus on the golf course, assuring a clean, safe, playable, and aesthetically pleasing environment. Responsibilities include delegating work assignments, overseeing job performance, and inspecting course conditions. Primary maintenance functions include facility and grounds maintenance, management of the irrigation system, record keeping of plant protective applications, and maintenance of the fertilizer, chemical, aeration, and mowing schedule.

Maintenance Activities

Assists with all maintenance activities related to Mozingo Lake Recreation Park, with primary focus on the golf course.

Maintains the grounds and irrigation systems, installations, signage, and greens of the golf course.

Installs and maintains landscaping. Mows grass, rakes trimmings, and prunes and trims trees and shrubs. Maintains ornamental shrubbery and prepares annual flower beds, keeping records and expenses as needed to operate within the budget.

Implements comprehensive golf course management plan for chemical/fertilizer applications, aeration, and mowing schedules.

Applies various chemicals/fertilizers to specific zones, assuring adherence to the application program and safety. Implements the pest management process. Maintains all records regarding treatment and irrigation.

Provides training and oversight with other staff in use of equipment, application of course treatments, and installation and repair of equipment.

Maintains an understanding of the grass needs relating to irrigation. Assures the course is watered and maintained, and able to spot potential leaks.

Maintains an understanding of the computer program associated with the irrigation system and audits the process, assuring the program is efficient and the irrigation process is optimized. Operates the pump station.

Operates, services, cleans, and makes minor repairs to grounds maintenance equipment, including sharpening and maintaining hand and power tools, mowers, tractors, and small equipment. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment.

Assists the mechanic with maintaining the cutting units on the mowers and other mechanical issues as needed.

Inspects assigned grounds, facilities, and other areas for needed maintenance, repairs, or cleaning.

Conducts daily/weekly/quarterly inspections of the facilities and equipment, assuring they are safe, accessible, and in proper working order. Keeps an accurate record of inspections.

Maintains safe conditions on the walking trails, sidewalks, cart paths, and parking surfaces.

Monitors and assures the optimal appearance, playability, and esthetic nature of the golf course and park.

Prepares the set-up, clean-up, and breakdown of special events and tournaments held at the Golf Course and Park as needed.

Maintains an understanding of the inventory, equipment, chemicals, and supplies needed to maintain the golf course and park assuring for accuracy.

Maintains an awareness of all park and golf course policies, procedures, and practices, assuring thoroughness and accuracy.

Provides recommendations to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent regarding changes to procedures and future planning.

Construction & Repair Activities

Performs repairs related to carpentry, roofing, plumbing, electrical, fabrication, painting, concrete, landscaping, mechanical projects and infrastructure, assuring completeness and safety for self and all others.

Installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs irrigation lines.

Assists other departments with construction and building projects.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

Assists with research for special purchases, and assists in maintaining budget.

Performs other related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

Is responsible for supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include coaching, training employees; directing work; may address complaints and resolve problems.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in Turf, Parks and Recreation, Agronomy, Agriculture, or closely related field.
