IT Cybersecurity Specialist (Systems Administrator)

Summary

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is one of the best places to work in the Department of Justice and is one of the premier inspector general offices in the federal government. The OIG’s IT Division offers advanced and entry-level opportunities for Software Application Developers, Cloud and Network Engineers, Security Specialists, Project Managers, and Customer Support Technicians. This posting fills a position on our Cloud and Network engineering team.

Overview

Open & closing dates: 12/18/2025 to 01/05/2026. The job will close when we have received 100 applications.

Salary: $105,383 to – $195,200 per year (GS 13 – 14).

Locations: San Francisco, CA; Washington, DC; Atlanta, GA; New York, NY; El Paso, TX (Remote). Travel may be required. No telework eligible. No travel required. Occasional travel may be expected. Relocation expenses reimbursed.

Duties

  • Administering and managing the agency’s Cloud Service Environment, Enterprise IT Service Management platform, and various cloud-based applications.
  • Building, configuring, and deploying cloud system resources, servers, and other multi-user devices to support virtual machines, storage, networks, and other off‑premises and cloud resources.
  • Providing architecture and design support to create specialized OIG and Agency‑wide cloud‑based systems and solutions.
  • Identifying inefficiencies and vulnerabilities in IT systems and resources, conducting feasibility studies for enhancements, and suggesting improvements to reduce costs and maximize taxpayer value.
  • Coordinating significant technical matters with representatives of internal and external organizations.
  • Managing accounts, system administration, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
  • Working with DOJ/OIG business stakeholders to implement solutions that increase agility, flexibility, and durability across diversified landscapes.
  • Developing business process documentation, standard operating procedures, knowledge base articles, technical bulletins, and other documents supporting the IT Division.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Must be registered for the Selective Service, if applicable.
  • Must successfully pass and be subject to random drug screenings.
  • Must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
  • May be subject to a probationary period.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: Attention to Detail – thorough and conscientious.

  • Customer Service – works with clients, assesses needs, resolves problems, etc.
  • Oral Communication – expresses information effectively, makes clear presentations, listens, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving – identifies problems, evaluates alternatives, and makes recommendations.

Specialized Experience GS-13

To qualify at GS-13, one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12, either federal or private sector. Examples include:

  • Administering Azure Active Directory, managing user accounts, groups, and access permissions.
  • Configuring virtual hardware (CPU, memory, storage, network interfaces) to meet workload requirements.
  • Implementing policies to enforce governance standards and compliance controls across cloud subscriptions.
  • Troubleshooting network connectivity issues within Azure Virtual Networks.
  • Monitoring system performance using cloud monitoring tools; identifying bottlenecks.

Specialized Experience GS-14

To qualify at GS-14, one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13. Examples include:

  • Administering Azure Active Directory (AAD) to manage identities and groups across Azure cloud.
  • Configuring Virtual Networks (VNets), subnets, and NSGs to secure network environments.
  • Automating administrative tasks using Automation and PowerShell scripting.
  • Leveraging advanced monitoring and log analytics tools to monitor and optimize performance.
  • Configuring and managing Azure virtual machines, storage accounts, and SQL databases.

Time in Grade Requirement

Applicants who have held a GS position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade level (or equivalent) by the closing date.

Education

No education requirement. Experience alone is required; no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
