The Chatwal Lodge is seeking a talented Sous Chef to join the team at The Chatwal Lodge located Sullivan County, in the Lower Hudson Valley region of the Catskills Mountains. This exciting leadership position is a highly visible role and reports to the hotel Executive Chef.

The goal of the Sous Chef is to manage a specific department and work with the Executive Chef to create, implement and maintain quality standards. In some instances, the Sous Chef will be expected to be responsible for the entire operation in the absence of the Executive Chef. The ideal Sous Chef will accomplish their tasks by monitoring the daily functions of the culinary department, including providing support and guidance to the culinary team, ending in a positive guest experience.

Responsibilities

Support senior leadership by developing and assuming basic management responsibilities

Assume the role of liaison between all departments within the culinary division and all other hotel departments

Supervise the preparation and cooking of various food items

Develop and implement creative menu items that adhere to Hyatt brand standards

Plan, coordinate & implement special events and holiday functions

Manage hourly kitchen employees through scheduling, payroll, training, coaching, evaluating and hiring

May manage other key culinary leadership rolls including supervisor and other less senior Sous Chefs

Lead and coach the team towards achieving exceptional guest service and employee satisfaction results

Monitor food production, ordering, cost, and quality and consistency on a daily basis

Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen facilities and equipment

This position is full-time and located on property at The Chatwal Lodge located in White Lake, NY. The starting salary for this position is $65,000. Actual pay will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

In-depth skills and knowledge of all kitchen operations

Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner

Culinary education and/or on the job training, hotel experience preferred

Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds

Service oriented style with professional presentations skills

At least 4 years experience in a senior role in a culinary environment

Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, proven track record in high volume property, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and associate relations, and ability to improve the bottom line

Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
