WHEDA is seeking an Underwriter 2 to join our Single-Family Team in our Madison facility. Wisconsin residency required.
SALARY: Hiring Range for this position is from $65,708 to $80,940 Annually. Offered Salary will be based on qualifications and internal pay equity. WHEDA provides a competitive salary and WHEDA employees participate in the State of Wisconsin benefit package which includes retirement, health insurance and deferred compensation programs.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The position of Single-Family Underwriter 2 is responsible for review and evaluation of single-family housing loans, ensuring compliance and creditworthiness. Performs as a more senior Underwriter, also providing coaching and mentoring to Underwriter 1.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Reviews and evaluates loans for creditworthiness and compliance with program requirements, which includes analyzing income, credit, assets, and property
Conducting compliance analysis; reviewing applications; and performing other due-diligence activities
Provides customer service responding to questions by applicants, and communicating loan decisions including approvals, denials, and problem resolution
Manages individual pipeline daily by completing daily assigned underwriting reviews, condition reviews and other underwriting tasks within established turn times
Participates in developing and implementing policies and procedures
Participates in the development, testing, and implementation of new products or systems related to residential credit
Provides training and outreach for external and internal customers, which includes developing training content, selecting materials, and facilitating training sessions
Performs or assists with other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree in real estate, finance, or related field, AND 2 years of experience as an Assistant Underwriter or Underwriter 1; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Direct Endorsement (DE) designation required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of mortgage industry, specifically underwriting principles and practices
Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations including knowledge of FNMA and FHLMC guidelines, FHA/HUD guidelines
Proficiency with automated underwriting systems such as Loan Product Advisor (LPA) and Desktop Underwriter (DU) DO, and Total Scorecard
Underwriting principles and practices
Credit report review principles and practices
Problem analysis and applicable solution options
Proficiency in interpreting Automated Underwriting System
Attention to detail and proficiency in data accuracy
Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills
Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
Successful prioritizing and management of work projects
Maintains confidentiality related to internal/ external customers and any other information obtained in this role
This position has a work schedule that will initially be 100% in-office. After training is complete, it is at the discretion of the direct manager when the employee may begin a hybrid work schedule.
