Hours: 40 hours per week; some evening and weekend hours are required

Salary: $55,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience

Basic Position Overview The Coastal Plain Regional Library System (CPRLS), headquartered in Tifton, GA, is seeking a dynamic and innovative Head of Public Services to join its Regional Administration team. Under the direction of the Library Director, the Head of Public Services works collaboratively to coordinate and continuously improve library experiences for Coastal Plain Regional Library patrons. The Head of Public Services serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team. The Head of Public Services will be responsible for all Coastal Plain Regional Library System branch locations.

Essential Functions Supervision & Support

Supervises and supports branch managers and, by extension, provides support and guidance to branch staff as needed, to ensure delivery of quality library services to patrons.

Leads, coaches, supports, and establishes overall work objectives for library managers; reviews and evaluates work performance, completes performance evaluations, and administers employee disciplinary actions (in coordination with Library Director); participates in interviewing and selecting staff.

Supports the Branch Managers on organization-wide projects and initiatives.

Advices, directs, and consults with library managers on staffing needs, employee relations, policies, program services, and library budgets.

Implements standard operating procedures, best-practice services and systems to assure that circulation operations are consistent across all branches.

Serves as mentor, resource, and cheerleader to all Assistant Branch Managers and Branch Managers, focusing highly on circulation, patron and customer services.

Remains informed of, and trains staff on, development in library management practices and resources.

Responds to and resolves customer comments, concerns, and complaints.

Works collaboratively with managers and regional staff to deliver targeted library programming with measurable outcomes.

Monitors employee morale and takes appropriate action to resolve conflicts in a timely fashion; resolves issues related to supervision, evaluation, and discipline of personnel, in collaboration with Library Director.

Communication

Ensures effective communication and collaboration between library staff and other library departments, as well as with customers and community agencies and groups.

Regularly meets with library managers to ensure open lines of communication, provide updates on library services, and review operational updates and changes.

Communicates and coordinates policies, procedures, and operational information to Branch Managers and staff.

Management and Reporting

Analyzes and creates reports regarding budgets, staffing, projects, procedures, and making recommendations, as needed or requested.

Collaborates with locations to ensure the safety and security of all customers and staff.

Makes recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team in annual budget preparation relating to services and operations, capital improvement planning, technology plans, policy & procedure development, staff development, and long-range and strategic planning.

Coordinates and/or participates in community engagement.

Other/Additional Duties

Regularly attends meetings of the Regional Board of Trustees, the county board meetings and community meetings as requested by the Library Director.

Balances administrative and leadership responsibilities with time in the field working with managers and other staff to ensure exceptional library experiences.

Responsible for light cleaning of assigned work area(s).

Communicates and coordinates policies, procedures, and operational information to Branch Managers and staff.

Frequent in-county travel and out-of-county travel as required. Library vehicles are available for most travel.

Assumes additional responsibilities and performs additional tasks as assigned and/or directed.

Minimum Requirements

Education : Bachelor's Degree required; MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution preferred.

Experience :

Two (2) years customer service experience in a public library setting.

Three (3) years of experience managing community library services and projects; two (2) years preferred in a supervisory capacity.

PINES experience preferred.

Certifications & Licenses :

Valid Georgia Driver's License and good driving record. 2-year Driving Report.

Physical Demands & Work Environment Work is typically performed with the employee sitting at a desk, standing for extended periods, or bending/stooping. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds routinely, climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time, extended walking within and outside branch locations, reach, bend, and stoop. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, grasping, lifting, kneeling, pushing, repetitive motions, walking, etc. Typical office/library environment. Some fluctuations in building temperature related to HVAC problems can cause uncomfortable periods of heat or cold. Some periods of elevated noise levels. Some stress related to the type of work may be encountered, e.g., pressure related to periods of high-volume activity and multiple demands.
