Application Engineer Application Engineer Combines technical expertise in quotation preparation with advanced customer support responsibilities across all the companies of IES Infrastructure Solutions. Integrates opportunity detection and workflow management.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Inside Sales, Engineering, Project Managers, and Account Managers to create solutions that meet customer needs.

Partner with Engineering to develop bid strategies, proposals, and Bills of Material for customer needs.

Stay updated on competitive offerings and share insights to create counter strategies.

Prepare quotation packages utilizing technical knowledge.

Create bills of material for standard and simple projects.

Interpret customer requirements and match products to specifications and drawings.

Collaborate with Sales Engineers to ensure technical compatibility and competitiveness of quotes, and that all project requirements are met.

Communicate contractual, technical, and commercial terms.

Provide advanced technical support to customers and the sales channel on various industrial products and services.

Resolve complex technical product questions, escalating when necessary.

Provide complex product and solutions application support for various equipment such as panelboards, switchboards, and switchgear.

Manage post-order support by addressing technical questions and issues that arise after an order is placed.

Hand off quotation packages with comments on exceptions and built-in value for Sales Leaders to use in customer presentations.

Collaborate during the order conversion process as needed.

Build relationships with customers to enhance their experience.

Advocate for the customer, seeking suitable solutions or workarounds.

Interface with internal functions like Quality, Engineering, and Product Management on the customer’s behalf.

Qualifications

2+ Years relevant customer‑facing technical experience.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business preferred; combination of education and experience considered.

Proven quotation experience in the electrical industry.

Knowledgeable low voltage electrical distribution and/or medium voltage electrical distribution equipment.

Familiarity with Power Distribution Equipment such as busway, panelboards, transformers, switchboards, electrical components, and services.

Understanding of and ability to apply NEC equipment standards and local codes.

Understanding of competitor products.

Extensive knowledge of codes: UL891 & NFPA 70.

AutoCAD (2D) proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

Develop complete submittal drawing sets consisting of three line schematics, point‑to‑point wiring diagrams, customer connection drawings, and all mechanical drawings done by others.

Skills and Abilities

Self‑motivated team player with good time management, verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to effectively use company software and collaborative tools.

Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
