Schaffer Associates is recruiting for a
Commercial Estimator
for a leading national lumber and building materials dealer. The Commercial Estimator is responsible for commercial takeoffs and pricing, for developing requests for proposal (RFPs), and for reviewing bids, estimates, and Change Orders from contractors and suppliers. Based in Western PA, this position reviews plans and specifications relative to proposed schedules and scope of work and works closely with the Director of Strategic Construction to coordinate construction projects and paperwork. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Obtain and review construction documents. Provide high quality material take-off estimates for commercial construction projects, assess difficulty of work, and identify costs associated with given project. Review finalized estimates for compliance with project documents and specifications. Prepare requests for bids. Maintain an up-to-date computer-aided estimating system. Communicate with the Director Strategic Construction, contractors and sub-contractors, and all departments and construction professionals in order to best ensure successful project outcome. Provide other technical support to construction projects as needed. Required Skills & Abilities
Experience in commercial construction and estimating, with a preference for experience in hospitality or resort development; experience in residential construction would be a plus Ability to read and comprehend complex commercial construction documents; write routine reports and correspondence; speak/present in front of a small group Experience with Microsoft Project, Planswift or Primavera estimating software preferred Strong communication skills with co-workers and construction professionals Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university A minimum of 4 years of specific experience and/or training related to the essential functions of the job; or an equivalent combination of education and training.
