Job Title: Sous Chef
Birmingham’s historic landmark, The Club, is looking for a fun, friendly, and energetic Sous Chef to join our team! The Club has been a Birmingham institution for more than 70 years, with its breathtaking view of the city, unique architecture, and one‑of‑a‑kind restaurants and service. Our goal is excellence through uncompromising service to our members in a caring and respectful manner. The team provides a high level of service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere to our members with three full‑service restaurants, bar and terrace, along with a high volume of event activity.
Qualifications
Minimum of three years’ experience in a high‑volume kitchen (any combination of education, training, culinary experience or apprenticeship preferred)
Extensive understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, and equipment
Able to manage time wisely and prioritize assignments to meet time restrictions of events (REQUIRED)
Able to manage staff time as well
Familiar with inventory count
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work in a fast‑paced high‑stress environment
Enforcement of ServSafe standards and sanitation
Able to multitask and complete culinary tasks simultaneously
Self‑driven cook/chef looking to grow career
Available to work nights, weekends, and occasional holidays (REQUIRED)
Responsibilities
Assist in culinary and recipe development process, and execution of plated and buffet functions
Manage kitchen staff of 12 to 15 cooks
Delegate tasks in the kitchen with follow‑up and enforcement of staff accountability
Train and cross‑train staff
Place staff for functions
Manage par lists and participate in ordering process
Requirements
3 years culinary management experience
5 years experience in a high‑volume kitchen
Culinary degree preferred
Knowledge of multiple cuisines
Sous Chef competitive salary based on experience and a great benefits package
Compensation Salary range: $55,000 – $75,000 per year, based on experience.
