Serve as counselor, connector, and champion for all students at Paul College. In conjunction with the Director of Career Services for the Paul College of Business and Economics, develop and execute special outreach programs to inform both faculty and students of the need for long-term career planning and career development. Plan and implement career development activities to guide students within the college from selection of an academic major through the job-search or application to graduate or professional schools.
Duties/Responsibilities
In association with Paul College Career Director, set college career advising strategic vision/plan in accordance with CaPS mission and strategic objectives and college priorities.
Align operational goals to strategy and CaPS strategic objectives.
Serve as primary career counselor for currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students and alumni.
Consider academic majors and their connections to industry
Administer and interpret individual interest, skills, abilities, and values assessment instruments.
Stay current with career advising trends - develop an external career education network and learn from best practices.
Collaborate with peers in other colleges to continuously innovate career advising.
Perform other duties as assigned by College Director to ensure the success of CaPS on behalf of the university, its students, and alumni.
Plan and execute college-wide career development activities (for undergraduate and graduate students); fully implement and continuously improve CaPS career preparedness model: the Wildcat Way to Professional Success.
Support and manage specific career services informational programs; including orientation, admitted students' days, parents/family weekend.
Develop and use standardized methodology for program development to include goals, learning objectives, alignment with strategic plan.
Manage, develop and maintain faculty partnerships.
Maintain and develop employer relationships/partnerships.
Manage outreach to student organizations and student leadership groups tied to the college and develop/lead tailored career programs addressing specific needs of each group.
Own identified campus partnerships and develop programming as needed.
Work with and leverage alumni in programming.
Analyze student engagement and satisfaction data/reports from CaPS continuously assess priorities and service delivery.
Leverage data to “get to know” student population – how to best serve them and influence retention.
Train students (and develop programming if needed) on the use of various CaPS (career) technologies.
Design and deliver mass communications to students via Canvas Career Pages.
Assist with selection process, onboard, train, and supervise Career Advisors.
Support the professional development goals of CaPS student interns/workers by providing meaningful and relevant work opportunities.
Assist in management and representation of career office on behalf of Director including representation on committees and program meetings.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience
Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, career counseling, human resources, organizational development, or related area.
3+ years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proven ability to provide career and professional development through advising/counseling/mentoring
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
Excellent written and presentation skills
Ability to embrace and drive change and to organize and effectively manage multiple priorities, programs, and projects
Demonstrate proficiency using career assessment instruments
Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate student workers
Experience providing graduate level advising and programming
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Career Counseling and/or in Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Economics, or a related field.
