HR Consultant to join our consulting team
in support of a
mission-driven high school focused on the arts
in Washington, DC. This on-site consulting engagement offers a consistent schedule and the opportunity to provide meaningful HR support within a creative, student-centered educational environment. We are looking for a
team member who is aligned with JLM HR Consulting’s mission, vision, and values , and who approaches their work with integrity, accountability, and a commitment to service excellence. The consultant will represent JLM while working closely with our client and serving as a trusted HR resource on-site. In this role, the consultant will support our client through a balance of
strategic HR guidance and hands-on operational execution . Success requires strong judgment, discretion, the ability to navigate sensitive situations, and a consistent commitment to confidentiality and ethical practice. How You Will Represent JLM
Act as an extension of the
JLM HR Consulting team , delivering HR support that reflects our commitment to ethical practice, professionalism, and client-centered service Build trust-based relationships with school leadership, faculty, and staff while upholding JLM’s standards for discretion, respect, and accountability Apply consistent, compliant, and practical HR solutions that align with both JLM’s values and the client’s mission Essential Duties/Scope of Work
HR Advisory & Generalist Support
Serve as the on-site HR resource for administrators, faculty, and staff Provide practical guidance on employee relations, performance management, and workplace concerns in a high school setting Exercise sound judgment in sensitive matters and recommend appropriate, compliant solutions Support HR policy interpretation and implementation aligned with school culture and values Employee Relations & Compliance
Address day-to-day general and complex employee relations matters Ensure compliance with
District of Columbia, state, and federal employment laws
applicable to educational institutions Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion in all HR matters HR Operations & Systems
Execute core HR functions including onboarding, offboarding, employee records management, and personnel administration Serve as a primary resource for
HRIS systems , ensuring data accuracy, reporting integrity, and effective utilization Support benefits administration, leave management, and compliance documentation On-Site Presence & Collaboration
Maintain a consistent on-site presence
four days per week Foster collaborative, respectful relationships across the school community Qualifications Needed
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred HR Certification strongly desired 7+ years of progressive HR experience as a generalist or consultant Experience in an educational setting strongly preferred Demonstrated passion for the arts and arts education Strong working knowledge of DC, state, and federal employment laws Proven ability to navigate sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively within a diverse, inclusive, and creative school community Solid HRIS systems experience - Paycom, strongly desired Ability to balance strategic HR advising with detailed administrative execution High ethical standards and proven ability to maintain confidentiality
