Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees.**Description of Work**The primary purpose of this position is to review pesticide labeling and process pesticide registration applications. Prior to approving a registration request, the employee reviews the submitted labeling to verify that it conforms to federal/state laws and regulations enforced by the U.S. Environmental Protections Agency and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

The employee is responsible for ensuring that pesticide labels submitted for registration in North Carolina provide the necessary information to allow the product to be used safely, effectively and legally. To this end, the employee reviews and interprets master labeling approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, final container labeling, supplemental labeling/bulletins, and other information submitted with the pesticide registration package. Non-compliant labeling deemed to possibly cause unacceptable risk to the people, animals, and/or environment of North Carolina is refused. The employee also works with our clients to help remedy non-compliant labeling.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences****Recruitment Range: $46,817 - $57,263*** Knowledge of state and/or federal pesticide laws and regulations or the demonstrated ability to learn and understand comparably complex information.* Demonstrated ability to communicate information to interested stakeholders such as partner agencies, the regulated community or the general public. Communication is achieved using written or oral formats such as reports, emails, letters, and phone**.*** Must be able to prioritize daily workflow and work with minimal supervision.* Must be able to work in a team setting and interact professionally with coworkers and a diverse community of clients as well as develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies, and the regulated community.* Must have sufficient visual acuity and mental focus to review high volumes of pesticide labels and perform detailed data entry..Any employment offer may be less than the maximum of the range due to salary equity with similarly situated employees or the selected candidate's related education and experience.
