Recreation Specialist

The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for a Recreation Specialist at the Parks and Recreation Center. Position Summary

This position is responsible for planning, developing, scheduling, organizing, coordinating and implementing city-wide recreation programs, community events and activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work with the Recreation and Marketing Coordinator in planning and implementing city-wide special events Evaluate existing programs, research new programs, and propose recommendations Assist in the preparation of budgets and prepares cost estimates for events Maintain inventory and purchase supplies and equipment needed for special events Work with the local school district in coordination of facilities, programs and marketing Contact local and regional businesses and organizations for program support and participation Answer questions and provide information to the public regarding events, activities and programs; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints Attend and participate in conferences and meetings as required Serve as liaison to all league associations. Coordinate game schedules, repairs and light scheduling Attend league board meetings as required Must have the ability to work nights and/or weekends During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned Perform any and all other related duties or assignments as assigned Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License Equivalent experience (minimum 3 years) in Parks and Recreation or related field in lieu of education Must have excellent leadership, organizational, training and communicative skills, both oral and written Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screen, job related physical and background Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility Knowledge of City policies and procedures Ability to communicate and interact effectively with members of the public and co-workers Skill in effective oral and written communication Skill in the use of standard office equipment and software Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, political affiliation, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or gender identity and expression Benefits
