Location Davidson Co

Description This is a grant funded, 20 hour part time employee position contingent on continued funding from the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS). The Prevention Specialist reports directly to the Project Director and is responsible for assisting with project implementation and evaluation. A successful candidate must be capable of prioritizing activities, meeting goals and objectives in a timely fashion, and managing a significant amount of project detail.

Essential roles, responsibilities and activities of the Prevention Specialist

Act as a consultant and technical expert in substance abuse prevention matters.

Implement the Strategic Prevention Framework, a public health framework to identify needs, implement evidence-based prevention activities, and evaluate activities appropriate for universal populations in Davidson County.

Work in the community to implement activities including but not limited to organizing resource tables, participation in drug takeback events, and involvement with youth-focused activities.

Coordinate with data analyst to track, collect and report quantitative and qualitative data and information from consortium members, reporting successes to consortium and community members as needed.

Working with data analyst to assess success of programming for adjustment purposes to ensure success of implementation activities.

Coordinating education initiatives outlined in the required activities and implementation plan.

Within the first year of employment, obtain the Coalition Prevention Specialist certificate from the Tennessee Certification Board. More information about this certificate can be found here: https://www.tncertification.org/certification

Position Requirements Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge of health communication methods, public health, prevention science, and community resources.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of other employees, program participants, stakeholders, and community agencies.

Skilled in operation computer equipment, applicable software packages, and general office machines.

This position is 20 hours per week at Nashville Thrives, a Davidson County Coalition, location in Nashville, TN.

Occasional work on weekends or after normal business hours will be required.

A background check will be conducted and references will be contacted.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred but will consider experience with an Associate Degree, high school diploma, or General Educational Development (GED) (HiSET)

Skilled in operation of computer equipment, applicable software packages, and general office equipment. Needed computer skills include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
