Mechanical Engineer – Nuclear Power
Black & Veatch Corporation – Staff Position – Full‑time – No relocation – No visa sponsorship.
Overview Design mechanical systems supporting new nuclear power plant designs or modifications to existing operating plants. Work collaboratively with design, engineering, and execution teams across the United States. Perform all aspects of mechanical system design, analysis, and review for assigned systems.
Responsibilities
Design mechanical systems for nuclear power plants.
Collaborate with U.S. design engineering and execution teams.
Conduct mechanical system design and analysis.
Actively seek to understand client interests through normal client contact and project leadership interaction.
Provide technical direction and guidance to others.
Assign tasks to and coordinate with internal/external team members on complex projects.
Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or material selection.
Understand, manage, and adhere to project budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
Initiate contact with other disciplines to ensure proper workflow sequence.
The Team The Mechanical Engineering Department delivers high‑quality, on‑time design and services projects in Power, Gas, Fuels & Chemicals, Water and Waste Water, Data Centers, and Mining. The team includes specialists in Process and Power, HVAC, Fire Protection, Piping, Thermal and Renewable performance estimating and testing.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Nuclear Power Plant System design.
Knowledge of Condensate and Feedwater systems, cooling water (closed‑cycle), steam systems, instrument/service air systems, demineralized water supply, and potable water supply systems.
Proficiency with P&ID development.
Experience performing pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat exchanger sizing, and atmospheric tank sizing calculations.
Preparation of technical specifications for mechanical equipment, piping, and valves.
Knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations related to nuclear power plants.
Strong technical written communication skills.
Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles applicable to mechanical design of nuclear power plants.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent engineering experience; minimum five years of related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle record searches when required. Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer‑of‑record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries.

Work Environment and Schedule
Typical office environment with prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, and focused attention required.
Physical tasks may be required during site visits, including crouching, grasping, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, performance, and work assignments.
