This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Position Summary The Direct Underwriter I role is primarily responsible for delivering exceptional service to both internal and external members. The position involves evaluating loan applications, conducting thorough reviews, and making timely, well-informed lending decisions.

Essential Functions

Review and render decisions on direct loan applications, ensuring adherence to established service level agreements (SLAs).

Analyze credit reports, financial ratios, and other relevant data to support sound lending decisions.

Assess applicant and co-applicant eligibility based on membership criteria, credit policies, and product guidelines.

Detect and appropriately manage potentially fraudulent applications.

Support portfolio management strategies to maintain target goals for Weighted Average Rate (WAR) and delinquency.

Communicate clearly and professionally with internal loan officers regarding underwriting decisions, approval conditions, credit reports, and applicable federal regulations.

Evaluate supporting documentation such as tax returns, pay stubs (including tip income and shift differentials), and other financial records to ensure accuracy and completion.

Actively engage in personal and professional development, embracing coaching and feedback.

Build strong relationships with teammates, credit union staff through effective and respectful communication.

Demonstrate sound judgment and decision making while adhering to lending compliance standards and mitigating risk.

Represent the credit union positively through professional appearance and courteous demeanor.

Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters related to the credit union, its members, and dealership partners.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Direct Lending Manager or Senior Direct Underwriter.
