Overview Underwrites and markets new small business accounts within moderate level of authority for assigned agencies. Assists Agency Management Specialists in capitalizing on small account production opportunities, partners effectively with field underwriting staff, and provides responsive support and guidance to agents. All duties comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Responsible for new small business production in assigned territory, gathering, analyzing, and evaluating risk exposure.
Work within specific letter of authority to quote, accept, decline, and modify risks within territorial assignment according to accepted underwriting guidelines.
Apply knowledge of coverage forms, rating plans, and underwriting guidelines to select and price individual risks, ensuring adequate pricing through proper classification and adherence to company standards.
Answer inbound calls from agents on coverage, billing questions, and policy adjustments within prescribed authority for new small business submissions.
Collaborate with Agents, Regional Underwriters, AMSs, and other departments to grow a profitable small business book based on agency/territory/team assignments, actively marketing the product and traveling within the assigned territory as needed.
Reinforce ease of doing business by meeting or exceeding agent expectations and service quality consistently, communicating openly in a timely fashion, and driving agent adoption of technology via training efforts in CLAS.
Monitor premium growth for each small business segment with electronic reporting tools, continually conducting profit and growth analysis by territory and agency.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with managers, peers, and agents; communicate progress and share information; assist with training newer small business underwriters as necessary.
Stay abreast of industry information, new ideas, products, competitor practices, and customer preferences, advancing the company's CxP efforts.
Travel within territory by automobile (approx. 10–20% of employee time).
Qualifications Knowledge and Requirements
Proficient in the use of all supplied desktop tools, including automated underwriting and email systems.
Ability and desire to develop and execute proactive marketing strategies.
Effective communication with agents, applying appropriate sense of urgency.
Capability to build effective relationships with agents, regional underwriting, management, and peers.
Position requires ability to travel and a valid state‑issued driver’s license in good standing.
Education and Experience
College degree preferred.
2–5 years of underwriting and/or marketing experience required.
Designations of AU, CIC, CPCU preferred.

Pay Range USD $63,000.00 – USD $87,000.00 /yr.
