PetSmart’s Pet Stylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and best-in-class salon services. This position will receive training and guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams, learning grooming techniques. This role also supports store cleanliness, recommends solutions for pet parents, and upholds the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. The Pet Stylist in Training role is obtained after completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy. Essential Responsibilities
Under supervision, performs full menu of bath, brush and grooming services and standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) per PetSmart’s standards. Develops and maintains safe technical skills meeting or exceeding company expectations. Recommends additional health and wellness solutions with Pet Parents based on pet’s needs. Responsible for the pet parent experience and outcomes both in person and at the sales register. Greets pet parents, answers questions, and assists with making reservations in the salon. Conducts appointment reminder calls, maintains client records, and consults with pet parents on services offered. Manages check-in and check-out procedures for grooming appointments, including paperwork and rebooking. Promotes opportunities to grow salon sales to help achieve sales targets and relevant metrics. Recommends, informs, and sells merchandise and services. Maintains high levels of cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions in the grooming area; performs end-of-day cleaning per checklist. Assumes responsibility to act if a sick/injured pet is identified; transports to a veterinarian as needed. Assists in other departments as required; may be assigned other duties. Participates in our culture of Belonging and Recognition. Follows all Company Policies and Procedures. Qualifications
Successful completion of PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program. Prior grooming experience preferred; may be asked to complete a technical exam. Proficiency in computer applications. Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure. Flexibility in schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety measures. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Stand, walk, climb a ladder, and use hands to handle, feel, hold, write, etc. Reaching with hands and arms; may stoop, kneel, crouch. Specific vision abilities required; reasonable accommodations available. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently; occasionally team lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Vision requirements as noted. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environment with pet hair; moderate noise level with occasional higher noise.
