Hiring Incentives: Newly hired Corrections Officers may be eligible for hiring incentives up to $10,000, paid in installments. Qualified lateral Corrections Officers may be eligible for incentives up to $25,000, paid across several milestones.

Education Incentives: Employees are eligible for education incentives on base wages after completing probation.

Compensation: 2025 Hourly wage range $34.60 to $46.40.

Mission and Responsibilities

Your Responsibilities : As a Corrections Officer, your duties will include:

Providing intake and release services for inmates, including interviews to determine medical and other special needs, and processing booking information.

Maintaining order and ensuring the security of the Clark County Main Jail and Jail Work Center by supervising inmate activities and movement.

Conducting searches for contraband to maintain a safe environment.

Responding to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures, demonstrating composure and quick decision-making.

Preparing and transporting inmates for court appearances and other appointments.

Enforcing rules and regulations within the jail facility.

Monitoring inmate behavior through visual and electronic means.

Conducting regular security checks, screening visitors, and performing headcounts and searches to prevent contraband.

Instructing inmates on jail rules and procedures, addressing rule violations, and writing violation reports.

Commitment to Professionalism and Reliability

To effectively serve our community and maintain the integrity of our operations, excellent attendance is paramount. As an essential employee, you will be expected to work as assigned, including weekends, holidays, and various shifts on a 12-hour schedule following a '4 on 4 off' rotation. Mandatory overtime may be necessary, with opportunities for voluntary overtime.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking dedicated individuals who are:

At least 21 years of age

United States citizens or legal permanent residents

Possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license

Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a physical fitness level sufficient to perform the duties of the job

Ideally, have experience in a security setting or military experience (this is a plus)

Have a history of exceptional attendance

Selection Process Details

This is a continuous recruitment. We accept job applications throughout the year and create a competitive eligibility list that is valid for six months from the completion of a successful background check. Steps below outline the process:

Application:

All candidates must submit a job application through this site.

Written Test:

All candidates must complete a written exam administered by Jail Services Recruitment and Training Team. Written exam scores of 70 or above are accepted.

Physical Test:

After the written test, candidates will be invited to complete the Physical Ability Test (PAT). PAT must be completed before interview eligibility.

Panel Interview:

All candidates must complete a panel interview to be considered for the Background Process.

Background Process:

Invited candidates begin a background investigation. The background submission is graded and includes several elements such as criminal history, references, employment history, and more.

Eligibility Requirements and Disqualifiers:

Upheld standards; see detailed list of disqualifying factors.

Eligibility List:

Scores determine placement on the eligibility list, with conditional offers possible as vacancies arise.

Conditional Offer:

Contingent on passing exams including Physical Ability Test, Polygraph, Psychological Fitness Assessment, and Drug Screen.

Test Dates and Location

Upcoming test dates: Free in-house testing sessions are held every first Saturday of the month from 8:30 am to 11:30 am and every third Wednesday of the month from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Location: Jail Work Center, 5197 NW Lower River Road, Vancouver. Reserve your spot today. Testing includes a video-based written exam and a physical ability test.

Sample Duties

Examples of duties include:

Books inmates into the jail and conducts intake interviews to determine medical and other needs.

Assists in entering booking information, conducts searches, takes fingerprints, photographs, and prepares for submission to applicable systems.

Releases inmates at completion of sentence; supervises inmate activities and movement; supervises food services; coordinates medical care; monitors medications; monitors visits and interviews; answers calls; supervises transportation preparations; conducts security checks; screens visitors; conducts headcounts and searches; conducts drug testing; instructs inmates on jail rules; investigates rule violations; participates in disciplinary proceedings; maintains custody for inmates in hospitals or other facilities; serves on committees; may be assigned as training officer or instructor; performs duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Grade: Corrections Deputy 102. Salary Range: $34.60 – $46.40 per hour.
