Overview

This position is budgeted to start at $16.50 per hour. This is a PARS (Public Agency Retirement System) budgeted position and is limited to 1,000 hours per fiscal year. This is not a PERS eligible position. The City of Escondido’s Community Services Department is recruiting for a Recreation Leader I – Roller Hockey Scorekeeper at the Escondido Sports Center. The facility includes two roller hockey arenas, one regulation-sized soccer arena, a small soccer arena, and a 22,000 square foot skate park. The anticipated schedule is Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor at the Escondido Sports Center, maintain positive relationships with players, coaches, parents, referees, and other parties. Provide assistance as needed to fellow employees for special programs, daily tasks, and events. Provide excellent customer service while maintaining complete and accurate game statistics. Work closely with the Recreation Coordinator and Roller Hockey Referees. Maintain complete and correct statistics for each game. Accurately check in all players and confirm they have a liability waiver signed. Inspect and maintain inventory and quality of scoreboard equipment. Assist in all emergencies and injuries and their reports. Promote programs and events to customers. Make pre-game announcements and updates when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Work well in a team environment as well as individually while displaying excellent customer service skills. Have a depth of knowledge in roller hockey. Work efficiently in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. Have the ability to lift 50 lbs. Minimum requirements

16 years of age. Be able to obtain current First Aid/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire. Availability during the following times:

Sundays: 4:45 p.m. – 10:15 p.m. Mondays – Thursdays: 5:45 p.m. – 10:15 p.m.

Applications will be screened and the most qualified candidates will be invited to testing. Appointments are made from names certified on the eligibility list. Background investigations, LIVESCAN fingerprinting, and proof of legal right to work in the United States are required. A medical examination may be required at the time of appointment. Some positions require DOT pre-employment drug testing and random drug/alcohol testing. All new employees may be subject to the Loyalty Oath and driver’s license verification where applicable. Veterans’ preference

Eligible individuals are those who meet the following criteria: served in the U.S. armed forces, received an honorable discharge, did not retire from military service, and are seeking employment with the City of Escondido for the first time. Guard and Reserve active duty for training purposes does not qualify for veterans’ preference. Proof of eligibility (DD-214) must be submitted at the time of application.
