Overview
Pet Groomer Trainee at PetSmart. PetStylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and salon services. Training and guidance are provided by experienced Professional Styling teams during grooming techniques and the grooming academy pathway. This role supports store cleanliness, customer service, and pet safety standards. Essential Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform a full menu of bath, brush and grooming services and standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) according to PetSmart’s standards. Develop and display safe technical grooming skills to meet or exceed company expectations. Recommend additional health and wellness solutions to Pet Parents based on the pet’s needs. Ensure a positive pet parent experience in person, over the phone, and at the sales register. Greet pet parents, answer questions, and assist with salon reservations. Make salon appointment reminder calls, maintain client records, and consult with pet parents on services offered. Handle check-in/check-out procedures for grooming appointments, including paperwork and rebooking. Promote salon sales and productivity to help achieve targets and metrics. Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise and services. Maintain high levels of cleanliness, sanitation, and humane handling of all pets, including end-of-day cleaning per the maintenance checklist. Take immediate action if a sick or injured pet is identified, including transport to a veterinarian as needed. Assist in other departments as required and participate in PetSmart’s culture of Belonging and Recognition. Follow all company policies and procedures. Qualifications
Successful completion of PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program. Prior grooming experience preferred; a technical exam may be required. Proficiency with computer applications. Ability to react under pressure and remain composed. Flexible schedule; ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and safety. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Standing, walking, climbing a ladder; ability to use hands to handle, feel, and write. Reaching with hands and arms; stooping, kneeling, crouching; depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be provided. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional team lifting over 100 pounds. Depth perception required. Exposure to moving parts, a wet environment with pet hair; moderate noise with possible higher levels. Contact with live animals is common. Benefits
