Responsibilities
Perform professional grooming services (bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) according to pet parent instructions and company policies.
Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
Prioritize animal safety and well‑being, monitor for discomfort or injury, and report concerns to pet owners and management.
Assess each pet's needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
Provide excellent customer service, answering inquiries and offering grooming recommendations.
Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at‑home care products.
Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfect tools, perform daily and weekly cleaning.
Adhere to Petco’s grooming policies and ensure consistent quality.
Train, support, and supervise entry‑level trainees when necessary.
Qualifications
Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program or equivalent experience as a professional groomer or technical training program.
High‑school diploma or GED (preferred).
Independent judgment and problem‑solving skills, with ability to handle routine to moderately complex situations.
Results‑driven with commitment to productivity and performance.
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet grooming standards.
Passion for animals and desire for a career in pet grooming.
Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behavior.
Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments.
Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
