Overview
The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards Congress, its members, employees, visitors, and congressional buildings from crime, disruption, and terrorism. The Office of the General Counsel, Employment Law Division supports the attorneys and provides essential legal research and analysis to protect the integrity of Congress.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent legal research on statutes, regulations, legislative histories, and case law related to employment and labor matters.
- Draft research findings and legal opinions for attorney review and signature.
- Analyze the impact of current and proposed legislation, regulations, and court decisions and notify attorneys of changes affecting legal advice.
- Prepare monthly legal updates and reports on employment issues for the Employment Counsel.
- Organize evidence, exhibits, and administrative documents; determine pertinent facts and prepare initial summary recommendations.
- Perform factual investigations and furnish documentary files to support legal actions.
- Track trends in employment law and develop analysis for attorney review.
Requirements
U.S. citizen ; successful completion of a background investigation; one-year probationary period required; telework permitted according to agency policy.
