Overview COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
Responsibilities
Perform engineering tasks in support of the Flight Auxiliary Power Unit / Hydraulic systems engineering group.
Conduct engineering work on a team to accomplish assembly, servicing, test and launch of NASA's Space Launch System in support of the Artemis program.
Installation, maintenance and operation of ground systems supporting SLS launch, and development of ground application software and procedures used during ground processing and vehicle launch of NASAs SLS.
Apply knowledge of technical principles, vehicle processing operations concepts, ground system interfaces, and vehicle/ground system design and operation.
Support additional responsibilities including system training, vehicle processing, and launch certification.
Accomplish testing & operations independently, and act as Task Team Leader for assignments involving APU/Hydraulics engineering related teams.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Candidates will possess a BS degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Aerospace Engineering or Physics from an accredited engineering school. Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the experience. Aircraft / Spacecraft / Launch Vehicle processing background a plus. Hydraulic system and/or turbine system operation and maintenance experience a plus.
Physical Requirements
Climb stairs and ladders to access equipment for troubleshooting.
Climb ladders and platforms when necessary.
Wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
Extended periods of sitting or standing.
Work in tight confined space areas.
Work Environment
All work completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
Work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
Travel to different areas on site daily.
Walk on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand.
Equipment and Machines
Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.
Use office equipment including scanner, copier, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and desk supplies.
Attendance
Work assignments are normally 8 hour shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
Dependable and punctual.
Occasional overtime sometimes with short notice required to meet demanding schedule.
Other Essential Functions
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder status required.
Clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.
Ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
Government security clearance may be required in the future.
Travel to support position requirements; may include airline travel.
Appropriate grooming and dress; no safety hazard.
Positive work atmosphere; good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
Valid CDL with endorsements, Florida driver’s license.
Pass federal background investigation.
Comply with all drug-free workplace requirements; drug testing required for sensitive positions.
