Job Description – Mechanical Engineer I/II/III – APU / Hydraulics (ADV000CH7)

The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
Responsibilities
Perform engineering tasks in support of the Flight Auxiliary Power Unit / Hydraulic systems engineering group.
Assist with assembly, servicing, test and launch of NASA's Space Launch System in support of the Artemis program.
Engage in installation, maintenance & operation of ground systems supporting SLS launch and development of ground application software and procedures used during ground processing and vehicle launch of NASA's SLS.
Apply knowledge of technical principles, vehicle processing operations concepts, ground-to-vehicle interfaces, and vehicle/ground system design and operation.
Provide system training, vehicle processing, and launch certification as required.
Execute testing & operations independently and act as Task Team Leader for assignments involving APU/Hydraulics engineering related teams.
Contribute to team effort by completing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
BS degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Aerospace Engineering or Physics from an accredited engineering school.
Relevant education may substitute for a portion of experience.
Aircraft / Spacecraft / Launch Vehicle processing background is a plus.
Hydraulic system and/or turbine system operation and maintenance experience is a plus.
Physical ability to climb stairs, ladders, and platforms; wear hearing and eye protection; work in confined spaces; and travel across uneven terrain.
U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder; federal background investigation required; drug‑free workplace compliance required.
Valid CDL with endorsements and Florida driver’s license required.
Clear, concise, and accurate communication skills; ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
Potential need for a future government security clearance.
Physical Requirements
Climb stairs, ladders, and platforms to access equipment; wear hearing and eye protection.
Short periods of sitting or standing; work in tight confined spaces.
All work performed safely in accordance with NASA and company standards.
Travel to various sites within the test complex; walk on uneven terrain, paved areas, gravel, rocks, and dirt/sand.
Equipment and Machines
Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related peripheral equipment to maintain, adjust database logs, print documents, and record work performance.
Use office equipment such as scanner, copier, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other desk supplies.
Standard work shift: 8 hours, 5 consecutive days per week; occasional overtime with short notice may be required.
Dependability and punctuality are essential.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required if offered a position.
