Intervention Specialist
opening at our Transition Academy in Niantic, Connecticut.
General Scope of Responsibilities To provide appropriate school-based services to students enrolled in the LEARN Special Education Programs.
Relationship within the Organization Supervises directly to the Special Education Teacher and works closely with the BCBA/BCABA, Coordinator, and SSS Administration.
Responsibilities
Implement strategies from the overall curriculum and IEP, including inclusion, individual work, data collection and monitoring, and program adjustments.
Demonstrate program interventions to inclusion staff and assist in their training.
Prepare instructional settings and materials for student programs.
Supervise and assist students in all specified settings.
Collaborate on all aspects of the student program with inclusion staff and LEARN personnel.
Build supportive relationships with students while maintaining authority.
Assist with student toileting, feeding, and other health responsibilities.
Pass competencies and use approved de‑escalation and restraint procedures.
Lift up to 50 lbs. when necessary.
Use Program Change procedures, communicating with teacher and BCBA regarding individual student information.
Implement behavior change programs for educational and behavioral needs.
Maintain ethical conduct and confidentiality.
Be punctual and adhere to daily schedules throughout the school year.
Work cooperatively with staff and families.
Participate in professional development and demonstrate competencies.
Attend team and staff meetings as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Student Support Services Administration.
Experience, Knowledge, and Training
Earned a secondary school diploma or equivalent.
Earned an Associate’s Degree (or higher), or achieved at least a score of 457 on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.
Experience working with children with autism or emotional/behavioral challenges and their families preferred.
