Utility Worker III-Right of Ways

Leads and participates with a crew, in landscape maintenance of rights of way, green space and public buildings. Required to have experience with cemetery operations, such as opening and closing of graves, burial procedures, and cemetery maintenance. Inspects and maintains in good working order, all tools and gas-powered equipment, schedules needed repairs and keeps accurate records. Must be proficient with general landscaping tools like, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, hand tools, Bobcats, Backhoe, mini excavators, and front-end loaders. Completes daily work reports. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
Reviews work orders to determine nature and location of work; loads necessary materials and equipment.
Leads, inspects and reviews the work of a crew engaged in a variety of semi-skilled maintenance activities.
Operates equipment, including lawn maintenance equipment, snow removal equipment in support of citywide maintenance and construction activities as based on assigned division.
Transports required equipment and materials to the job site; assists in the loading and unloading of materials and equipment transported to the work site.
Leaf removal operations, such as with a vacuum truck or small equipment.
Leads crew in mowing operations, to include mowing, trimming, edging and debris removal, at various public buildings, off sites and highways.
Sets up maintenance of traffic and job site safety.
Assists other departments in scheduled and emergency operations and all other requested work within safe operation of the equipment.
Conducts routine minor maintenance of vehicles/equipment; ensures vehicles and equipment are neat, clean and orderly.
Conducts snow and ice removal of assigned area; clears assigned area of debris.
Reviews procedures and documentation such as vehicle manuals and maintenance manuals to ensure work is performed correctly.
Keeps records such as vehicle maintenance and gas receipts to document actions taken.
May be required to operate a truck.
May exercise supervision over crew in the absence of Crew Supervisor.
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and general laboring tasks related to the work of the crew.
Transports heavy construction equipment to designated locations.
Makes routine repairs, maintenance, and minor adjustments to equipment; reports any special repairs needed.
Enforce safety regulations and work standards in operation of equipment.
Create a preventative maintenance plan with assistant supervisor, schedules maintenance and keep records.
May be required to respond to emergencies outside the normal workday, including snow removal duties.
May be required to work overtime.
Performs related work as assigned.

Requires two years of landscape and right-of-way maintenance, or closely related experience.
Three to five years of experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Landscape installation and maintenance, and all tools and equipment involved.
Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of assigned equipment.
Considerable knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations applicable to equipment operation.
Considerable knowledge of the hazards of equipment operation and of appropriate safety precautions.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
May be required to perform snow removal duties.
Will be required to respond to emergencies outside the normal workday.
Skill in the care and operation of assigned equipment.
Special Certifications and Licenses Requires a valid Class B CDL with endorsements for air brakes, combination, and tank trucks and good driving record.
May be required to obtain a Registered Technician certification for pesticides.
May require additional certifications based on assigned area.
Selected candidates with an active CDL will receive a $2,000 bonus upon hire. (Paid per pay period, 26 pay periods per year).
Selected candidates with an active CDL learner’s permit will receive a $1,000 bonus upon hire. (Paid per pay period, 26 pay periods per year).
